How does deleting your account work?

You can delete your Greetopia account from account settings. This page walks through what actually happens: what is permanently removed, what is kept so other people do not lose content they paid for, and what the confirmation looks like.

How do I delete my Greetopia account?

Go to account settings and choose Delete Account. You confirm by typing DELETE and re-authenticating, with your password or your sign-in provider. Once confirmed, deletion happens right away. There is no grace period and no undo.

What happens to cards I own after I delete my account?

Cards you paid for yourself are deleted with all their content. Cards you upgraded with group credits are also deleted, and the credit spend stays in the group history as a record, with your name shown as a former user.

Cards where the recipient paid for the upgrade are kept for the recipient, with your name changed to "Former user".

What happens to signatures I added to other people cards?

They stay on those cards. Your name is replaced with "Former user", and the message text and any photos or voice notes remain. This keeps the card whole for its creator and recipient without keeping your identity attached to it.

What happens to groups I owned?

Ownership moves automatically to the most active member, measured by recent activity, then all-time, then who joined earliest. The new owner is told by email. If you were the only member, the group is archived. Credits stay with the group either way, and your name is removed from it.

What happens to groups I was a member of?

You are removed from them. In the credit-usage list your name becomes a former user, but the record of what you spent stays, so the owner audit trail is intact.

What about payments I made?

Payment records are kept in anonymized form for seven years, for tax and legal compliance. There is no personal information in them, just the transaction records with your identity stripped out.

Is anything else kept after deletion?

Only the anonymized payment records and the preserved cards described above, with your name replaced. Everything else, your profile, email, saved contacts, event reminders, address book, and preferences, is permanently deleted.

What if I change my mind after clicking delete?

There is no undo. If you want to come back, you would create a new account. We chose a clean hard delete rather than a soft one, because soft deletion leaves people unsure whether their data is really gone.
